About Optivo

Optivo adds custom product options to a Shopify store — engraving text, colour swatches, gift wrapping, dates and formula-based pricing — and charges for them correctly at checkout.

It is published by Golden Info Systems Limited.

Section titled “The one decision everything else follows from”

Optivo never creates a product variant.

That sounds like an implementation detail. It is the whole product.

A Shopify product carries at most three options, and every combination of them is a variant you have to create and maintain. The conventional way to sell “any of 12 thread colours, with or without a gift box, engraved with up to 20 characters” is to multiply that out: twelve colours times two box choices is 24 variants before anyone types a word of engraving — and the engraving cannot be a variant at all, because its possible values are infinite.

Apps that take that route leave a catalogue full of machine-generated variants, inventory records for things that were never stocked, and reports that cannot tell a real SKU from a combination. Uninstalling does not clean them up.

Optivo records a customer’s choices as line item properties on the cart line, and applies the price difference at checkout with a Shopify Function. Your catalogue keeps the variants you created and no others. There is no limit to how many options a product can carry, and no limit to how many values a text field can take.

The number the customer sees on the product page and the number Shopify charges come from the same published configuration.

The widget’s price preview is for the customer’s benefit only — it never decides what anyone pays. When an option set is published, its pricing is written to a product metafield, and at checkout a Shopify Function reads that metafield and applies the adjustment inside Shopify’s own pricing pipeline. Nothing a customer can edit in their browser can change what they are charged.

That matters because the opposite failure is this category’s most common bug: a preview that says £8.00 and a checkout that charges nothing, discovered weeks later in a reconciliation. Preview and charge disagreeing is a bug we want reported, not a limitation to work around. See How pricing works.

Everything Optivo added goes away.

Uninstalling removes the option configuration written to your products, removes the app’s own records, and leaves no code behind in your theme — Optivo renders through Shopify’s app embed mechanism rather than editing theme files, so switching it off removes it cleanly. Dead Liquid left in a theme by a removed app is a documented, category-wide annoyance, and avoiding it was a design requirement rather than an afterthought.

See Uninstalling for exactly what is removed and when.

  • Customer selections live on the Shopify order, where they belong — that is what your fulfilment team reads.
  • Customer data requests are surfaced for fulfilment. Redaction requests remove the underlying records rather than merely flagging them.

Privacy and your data has the detail.

Being clear about this saves everyone time:

  • Not a scheduling app. It collects a date; it does not check it against your capacity, blackout days or existing bookings.
  • Not a page builder. The static types place a heading, a note or a divider between fields. They are not for building product-page sections.
  • Not a variant manager. If you need per-combination inventory tracking or distinct SKUs, those are variants, and variants are what Optivo deliberately does not make.
  • Not a theme editor. Options render where the app embed places them, styled by your theme. Theme styling covers what you can change.
