Build your first option set

This walks through a single worked example: a £5 gift wrap checkbox and a personalised engraving charged per character, on one product.

Before starting, make sure the app embed is on — see Install and turn it on.

From the app’s home screen, choose Create an option set. Give it a name that describes the group, not the product: Gift options rather than Blue mug. One set is normally reused across many products.

Gift wrap

  1. Add an option and choose the Checkbox type.
  2. Label it Gift wrap.
  3. Under pricing, choose Flat fee and enter 5.00.

Engraving

  1. Add a second option and choose the Text field type.
  2. Label it Engraving.
  3. Set a maximum length — 20 characters is a sensible start.
  4. Under pricing, choose Per character typed and enter 0.25.

A 10-character engraving now adds £2.50, and ticking gift wrap adds £5.00 on top.

Open the Products tab of the option set and add an assignment. For a first run, pick A specific product and choose one you can easily find on your storefront.

You can also assign by collection, tag, product type, vendor, or to every product — see Assigning to products.

Change the set’s status from Draft to Published.

This step is not cosmetic. Publishing is what sends the pricing configuration to Shopify, and it is what makes checkout charge the right amount. A draft set never reaches the storefront at all.

Open the product page you assigned. You should see both fields near the add-to-cart button, and a running price preview as you fill them in.

Add it to the cart and check that:

  • The cart line shows your choices underneath the product title.
  • The line price includes the add-ons.

If the cart price and the preview disagree, that is a bug worth reporting — see Contact support.

Work through Troubleshooting. In order of likelihood: the app embed is off, the set is still a draft, or the product has no assignment.
