Assigning to products

An option set does nothing until it is assigned. Open the set’s Products tab to add assignments.

Scope Use it when
A specific product One product, named directly. The most precise option.
A collection Everything in a collection, including products added to it later.
A product tag Everything carrying a tag. Good for cross-cutting groups like engravable.
A product type Everything of one product type.
A vendor Everything from one vendor.
Every product Your whole catalogue.

A set can carry several assignments at once — a collection plus two individual products, for example.

The most specific assignment wins, in this order:

  1. A specific product
  2. A collection
  3. A product tag
  4. A product type
  5. A vendor
  6. Every product

So a product assignment overrides a collection assignment for that one product, which is usually what you want when carving out an exception.

Tag, type, vendor and collection assignments are resolved in the background and kept current. If you add the engravable tag to a new product, or add a product to an assigned collection, it picks up the option set without you touching Optivo.

Because that resolution walks your catalogue, a very broad assignment on a large catalogue is not instant. Give it a moment before concluding a product was missed.

Removing an assignment takes the options off those product pages immediately. It does not touch orders already placed, and it does not delete the option set — the set stays available to reassign.
