The gate applies when you add, never when you sell

Section titled “The gate applies when you add, never when you sell”

This is the part worth understanding before you change plan.

A plan is checked at the moment you add an option. It is never checked when the storefront renders one, and never when checkout prices one.

So if you downgrade from Advance to Free, every colour swatch you already built keeps rendering, keeps being selectable, and keeps earning its surcharge. You simply cannot add another one. Nothing you have sold stops working because of a plan change.

One assignment is one rule attaching a set to products — this collection, this tag, this product. A tag assignment covering 400 products is one assignment, not 400.

A broad assignment is therefore an efficient way to stay inside a plan’s limits, as well as being less work to maintain. See Assigning to products.

Manage your subscription from the Plan page in the app. Shopify handles the billing, and charges appear on your regular Shopify invoice.

Annual billing is available on both paid plans and saves 20%: $95.90 a year against $119.88 billed monthly on Advance, and $191.90 against $239.88 on Professional.

Existing option sets keep working and your storefront is unaffected. You will be unable to create new sets or assignments until you are back within the limit or move up a plan.

Downgrading deletes nothing. Sets beyond the new limit stay in place; you simply cannot add more.
